V-steaming can be performed with or without clothes on. The act of squatting whilst lying down, with the vagina uncovered, causes the accumulated sediments and fecal matter to drain through the pores into the steam. A cloth is laid on the end, with a handle for easier regulation of the steam. The steam will be emitted from the bottom of the garment as it grows into the woman’s neck. Vagina steamers may be used at home or in spas or fitness clubs.

Vagina steamers are constructed of aluminum, brass, or steel and are available in inexpensive versions or ones with high heat settings for a more detailed vagina steaming. Popular versions include the Imperia Vagina Steamer and the Hitachi Steam Maker II. According to traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, it is vital for women to preserve safe glands and tissue within the vagina. Maintaining good internal hygiene is said to avoid colds, flu, cancers, skin conditions, nausea, exhaustion, headaches, high blood pressure, varicose veins, heartburn, sore throats, dandruff, anxiety, heavy sweating, breast enlargement, menopause complications, yeast infections, arthritis, among other diseases.
