The upgrade from version 1.x to ClassiCat version 2 is easy and automated. This
document includes some information on this process.
About installation
- Your destination and source directories cannot be the same. In other words, you cannot
install into the same directory that houses the installation files.
- ClassiCat installs several commonly used shared files. It is common for several of them
to be in use by other programs at almost any time, so it is a good idea to exit all other
programs before ClassiCat installation (even things like the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar
which starts up with Windows). If you get "access violation" errors, these can
typically be "ignored" without impacting the performance of ClassiCat.
About upgrading
- ClassiCat version 2 is a new, separate application. It is strongly recommended that you
install it into a directory that is separate from your prior installation of ClassiCat or
ClassiCat32. You can convert your database during the installation process (see the next
item) and, when you are satisfied that your old copy of the program is no longer needed,
you can use the Add/remove programs applet in Control Panel.
- ClassiCat32's setup program will ask if you want to convert an older version 1 (16-bit
or 32-bit) database. If you select this option, then all of your old data will be
converted into a separate version 2 ClassiCat32 database. You will need to designate the
exact file name of your database, and this can be done by navigating a standard "file
open" tree. Database conversion may take a little while!
What about the Import-Export Utility?
The functionality of the Import-Export Utility program is now incorporated into the
main program with version 2. Thus, you will not need to install a separate program for
Import-Export. In addition, data files for version 1.x are not compatible with version 2 -
you will need to download the music files in the version 2 format or get them on CD-ROM..
