23 Jan 2001

A new version of the music database file with thousands of corrections was introduced on this day. The entire file was reviewed over  several months and the updates include the deletion of duplicate entries, changes for consistency and to meet standards, the population of blank fields, and in some cases the conversion of notes to custom information.

Due to the nature of the changes, users that have already imported the older file should avoid importing all of the new file. This would result in a number of duplicate entries due to the renaming of some composers and compositions, . The best strategy for such users would be to delete unused composer and composition entries in their database and then import piecemeal from the new file.

To identify some of the changes, download one or more of the following zip files which contain documents in "rtf" format. "Rtf" files are compatible with popular word processing programs such as Microsoft Word.

Note that items that appear in the old file but not in the new one would have been deleted (i.e. they were duplicate entries) or renamed; ones that appear in the new but not the old would have renamed from the old file.
